Summer #10

When M and I first started this project, I started a blog about it. But years have made those older versions of WordPress vulnerable to hacks and such. Over time, here, I hope to flashback to older pictures and populate this blog again with the things we’ve done over the past ten years.

This is a blog about how M (my husband) and I bought a little over 10 acres of property in southern Vermont and have been pioneering it – taking down the trees, milling our own lumber, doing our own earthwork, and building our own home in traditional and modern timber frame styles.

While that all sounds pretty artistic, it’s also very idyllic. Mostly what we do is buy old equipment to perform a variety of tasks and keep it running. Somewhere about 40% of the time we’ve dedicated to this project has involved shopping for, purchasing, maintaining, and running for parts for a lot of old and new equipment. But that part is just as enjoyable as the work itself, so that’s okay.

We’ve given up a lot to dedicate to this process. After 10 years, it seems like we don’t have a lot to show for it, but we really do. And we’ve learned a lot along the way.

Mostly we’ve done this alone. We’ve had a few friends stop by for a day or two, but we also have a friend B, who will probably post here once in a while, who has helped for a couple years now and takes lots of pictures.

See you soon! Construction vacation is just one more week. I’ll get an update and pictures up soon.
